Intellectual Property Law

Your brand, your creative work, and your inventions are among your most valuable assets. Recososa Law Firm helps businesses and creators secure their intellectual property rights and enforce them when someone copies or misuses them.

How we help

  • Trademark search and registration with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL);
  • Oppositions and cancellations against confusingly similar or bad-faith registrations;
  • Copyright registration, licensing, and protection for creative works and software;
  • Patents and industrial designs, coordinated with technical specialists;
  • Licensing, franchising, and brand ownership agreements, including between co-founders and business partners;
  • Enforcement: cease-and-desist letters, unfair competition, and infringement cases.

Frequently asked questions

Does the first person to file a trademark always own it?

The Philippines follows a first-to-file system, but the Supreme Court has repeatedly cancelled registrations made in bad faith, for example by someone who knew another business was already using the mark.

Is my business name already protected by my DTI or SEC registration?

Not fully. A DTI or SEC registration is not a trademark registration. To protect your brand nationwide, register it with IPOPHL.
